    Gut shot deer

So my little cousin shot a deer this evening. Dad said it looked like a good shot, he mule kicked at impact. Very little blood was found. I spotted him bedded down approximately 2 hrs after shot. He was bedded down. It was too thick to finish him off. He got up and walked away slowly. After I lost sight of him, we backed out and decided to come back in the morning. I believe he was gut shot by how he was reacting to me. My question is will being gut shot cause any meat to spoil over night? I know it's plenty cold, so that doesn't concern me. What say the green screen?

Might ruin the tenderloins and rib meat.

He will be fine. Just clean the tenderloins up as soon as you can. Call a dog if needed. After you bust them out of their bed they usually go for a long ways before they stop. Look near water if you can't find him.

You won't know till you find him and see what the inside looks like. Majority of the may should be ok.

No meat ruined. Just wash the cavity doodle before processing.

It will be fine. Just clean it ASAP and skin it. Wash the cavity and clean it as good as you can then let it hang to air out (in a clean walkin) for a few days if you can. I have taken tenderloins out of gut shot deer and cleaned them very well under running water. I then soaked them in very cold ice/water with some salt in it for a few hours.

Don't gut it. Take the front quarters and back hams, backstraps. You should be good.

Fine minus anything that touched gut content.

Thats the way to handle Its a little dif to do but it works great and you don't have to mess with the mess inside. An its still classed as Quartered.I knew a old guy who could lay a deer or hog on its belly split down back an pop out backstrap/loin split and skin each ham and shoulder and walk away in 20 or so minutes and be pretty darn clean

If it is dead, I doubt the 'yotes will leave you much other than hide and bones.
