    Oklahoma Hunters- Please Read!

The Oklahoma Dept. Of Wildlife is considering a rule change that would allow for the use of tracking dogs to recover deer. Please take a minute to comment either online, or by writing a letter. Here is a link to the proposed rule changes and where you can comment.

We have been fighting for this for many years. Let's make it happen this time!

    Thanks for your help,

    Cheryl

Not all game wardens allow it. The way the law is written now, it is illegal to track deer with a dog, so you are at the mercy of the game warden whether or not he wants to allow you to do it. Also, not all game wardens answer the phones right away. Most take a day or so to call back (at least in our experience). I'm not blaming the game wardens. Heaven knows they've got more work than they need here!

Not to be contrary, but you can track in OK if you contact the game warden and follow legal means and methods. I've tracked in OK several times by following this simple protocol, OFF lead. If this passes I'll be done, as it clearly states ON lead. However, given that I know it will decrease my business in OK, I also know it will decrease lost deer. So I'll support it.

We need to change to verbage to "with Game Warden notification", not "with Game Warden permission". That's what we did with the feral swine night hunting bill we got passed. This way, all you need to do is show the text dialog indicating that you notified your warden that you will be tracking.
