    First time home buyer questions

Myself and my other half will be looking to purchase our first home together in the next few months. I currently live in Laporte and have been looking at highlands/Crosby and Baytown area. Already been preapproved just looking for any advice we can get as well as what areas to look at and where to stay away from. If it matters I'm 23 with no kids

See if you can qualify for a "first time home buyers course" we did and had to sit through an 8 hour course, but the class paid our 8K closing costs.

If you can not afford a 15 year note it is too much house. Paying off our second house this year.........

It would be worth obtaining a Good Relator. One that you can trust. As far as Home Inspectors try to find one that has a construction background so they know what they are looking at in a house.

In Texas both realtors work for the seller. Ask questions here......

I don't know those areas to well but I know Mount Belveau is the area out there. I also would purchase my home depending on the school district and what schools kids are zoned too. I also would purchase an older home in a more stable area than upcoming area.

This. Our realtor who represented us got us free ceiling fans, a garage door opener, 2" blinds on all windows, and a couple pallets of sod all for free. She also got the home builder to pay $650 towards movers.

If you plan on living in the house a long time look at a 30 year note. Buy all the house you can buy because rates will never get any better than now.

But old dude up top says if you cant do a 15 you can afford the home? Im confused, as one of you dont know what you're talking about.

That being said, I dont know your financial status and dont claim to. Buy what makes you happy, and if you want a 30 year mortgage more power to you.

I vote for a 15 year or less also. I went with a house below what I could afford and a 10 year. After we pay it off we will probably rent it out and buy something nicer.

I was going to suggest Beach City but that may be out of your budget, look for something in a nice established neighborhood with large trees. You are going to want something you can sale for profit on a few years
