    Eye Contact

I learned something yesterday while hunting. The only thing not in camo on me is my eyes

Several does came in and after a few seconds they realized I was here. I sat frozen, staring at thrm. They flipped out and trotted around. I diverted my eyes and lowered them. The does nearly instantly calmed down. They went back to my hand corn until something else freaked them out and left. Every time they looked at me, I lowered my eyes.

About an hour later, a doe and her button buck came in. Same thing -she flipped when she made eye contact but calmed down as soon as I lowered my eyes. I watched them until they picked their heads up and I would lower my eyes enough that I could still watch them but not let them make contact. They stayed calm until something got their attention and they headed toward it.

    Interesting, uh?

Were you up in a tree?

I've had young bucks look up at me, then go right back to eating.
Had does glance towards my figure, but they didn't seem bothered by my presence.

I always squint my eyes when they look up at me.
Not sure they would see my eyes or not but its what i do and my hand corn is typically
      0-10 yds

Are you blue eyed? I read somewhere that blue is one of the only colors they can see well.

I guess you need some Camouflage glasses.

I always squint my eyes too. Otherwise, they seem to see me. I have blue eyes so maybe that's what the deal is.

It's the same with turkey hunting. Yes, I'm blue eyed. I'm in a tripod that used to be well concealed. Not so much right now.

                      I've got brown eyes.
Only time I seem to have n issue is when they look at me while trying to decide which one to shoot or waiting for the one I'm going to shoot to give me a shot.
If I'm just watching them they don't seem to be bothered by me.....

Sixth sense kind of deal. I don't make eye contact or stare too much at one deer. How many times have you been in a room full of people and felt like someone was staring at you only to look around and see you were right?? Don't know how to explain it but it happens.

We conducted spot and stalk archery hunts on the King Ranch for years. The deer ALWAYS knew we were there....but would eventually get comfortable with our presence....after we paralleled the animals for a while. Most hunters want to sneak and directly stare fixated on the animal. The opposite is needed. If you act like another animal that poses no threat.....their demeanor will change.

Very true on the color Blue.
Easiest color for deer and other animals too see.

IMO the reason deer don't like when you stare at them is because that is what predators do. They lock on and never look away. I always look away when a deer looks at me.
