    Its always something....

I finally have an opportunity to hunt this season. I come down early yesterday morning. Pull all the cameras, batteries and lock the stands of 6 out of 7 spots. Get settled in the house and have a quick bite for lunch and head out to my stand around 11. I have a couple does come thru around 1 but nothing after that. There are tons of deer down on the fields to my south. I wait out the feeder but it never goes off.

Climb in my ground blind with bow in hand planning on taking a doe this morning. 7 o clock comes and goes. No feexer, no does. I give up about 9 and head to the truck. Grab my binos and glass the field to the south. See a shooter 8, grab my rifle and sneak down to the fence line with the wind in my face. Can't find him. His women are there but they are young. I give up and head back to the truck.

Drive up to my feeder and see no corn on the plate. Feeder is half full so I run a test. The stupid thing just shudders. Bad motor. It's always something!!!

Stop by the creek near the field and dump out a half bag of corn. Guess I'll be hiding in the cedars watching the field this evening and tomorrow morning.

Few days ago I go coyote calling. Get there and the call's dead, replace batteries but the holder is corroded. Go home and get battery pack out of my mojo. It's working now. Go back set up decoy (which almost immediately twirls itself full of grass) and call in.....nothing. Maybe there's a couple ducks on the pond, grab the shotgun and start my sneak. Came up on the wrong side and they jump up at about 50 but managed to kill one through repeated peppering. Bird goes down and is almost immediately drug under by the infestation of turtles. Angered i shoot the next turtle i see. Feel better. Kept eyes on the pond in case my duck manages to make it to shore. There's a few dove flying but i'm stuck with 3" #2's and a full choke. Kill one and it's so badly mangled i just toss it in the woods. Not gonna do that any more. But, I've spotted something whiteish bobbing close to the bank maybe it's my duck. It's thick where i see it so i bust through the mesquite out pretty much into the edge of the pond. Wasn't my duck, it was my turtle, which was actually a water snake with just enough life left in him to scare the heck out of me when i almost stepped on him. Got water in my shoe, scratched my stock, and got jabbed by a mesquite thorn. After that i just went home.

True... Could be at work instead of sitting out here getting wind burnt!! Spooked up 2 doe while walking to the creek. Hope they tell their dad so he can come investigate!!

That is why I have two feeders at each blind....one of them is inevitably not going to go off!

It's way too hot in this pop up and this public land got crowded today and even had one guy "sneak" through area this morning in full blaze orange with crossbow in hand looking like he would fire on the first sign of movement. Reminded me of Elmer Fudd "Where's dat wabbit?" Then the cows came in. But what better way to end the year than in a blind. May God continue to bless us all in 2017!!!!

At least I won't go home empty handed!!! While walking back to the truck I jumped a mass of swine. Aimed at the middle of the blur and dropped a little dude!! Left him for the birds!!
