I think he is referring to the blades being different lengths in the 4. The two longer blades deploy and allow the shorter ones to open freely. By making them all the same length your making all 4 open at once.

It's designed with the 2 shorter blades for a reason. The 2 longer blades disengage the shorter ones on impact. So at the point of impact you're only opening a 2 blade mech as far as the tissue is concerned. It increases penetration and makes larger entrance holes. So by doing that you just turned it back into a jack knife style mech like the 3 blades.

Grims are all I shoot now.

Don't have good luck with being able to reuse them but who cares, they work and animals don't make it far.

Ok, I follow you now. But yeah, that's what I was attempting to do. Frankly I haven't had a whole lot of complaints about the 2" Whitetail Special on whitetail sized deer. It makes short work of them, and leaves amazing blood trails. I've seen center punched liver shots die quickly and travel 30 yards. But, I added the fourth blade. So now I have like a super Whitetail Special.

I've had arrows blow through a whitetail and carry 50 yards past impact breaking ribs coming and going with the three blade Whitetail Specials. Adding a fourth blade may slow it down some, but maybe it only blows 20 yards past now. Now my current bow doesn't have the pop that my old bow did, so it's more of just a novel idea - something I wondered about. Years ago I actually spoke to Grim Reaper about building a four blade Whitetail Special. The old guy told me to get lost.

I reuse my 1-3/8" for the most part... especially on a passthrough... run a sharperner over the blades and back in the quiver.

Those 1-3/8 are as tough of a mech I've ever saw.
