I pray for all of those who have to deal with a seizure in some form or another, whether it's self, a loved one, or a stranger.

When I was in my early 20's I was watching tv at home by myself. Woke up laying on the couch, head pounding, mouth tasted like blood, and couldn't remember anything. Walked in the bathroom and my tongue was chewed up pretty bad. This was in October and I was scheduled to leave for Fort Benning in January. Ended up having quite a few tests done including an MRI and EKG but the doctors couldn't find anything. That was 12 years ago and nothing has happened since.

As far as forgetting to take the medicine, you wouldn't think with a daily med you would forget. I won't lie, there are plenty of times i have to think about whether I've taken my depakote. 20 years of taking it daily and have to wonder sometimes. I've been thinking about getting one of those pill containers with the days on them to keep up with it.

My wife had a brain tumor removed a little over 3 years ago. She was on anit seizure meds post op, but they took her off them after a few months of recovery.
Then about a year an half ago, out of the blue my son called me home and said something was wrong with mom. She was showing stroke like symptoms to me, so I rushed her to ER. About 2 min after sitting on ER bed and answering questions she went into a full gran mal seizure that lasted about 4 min. I thought she was dying. One of the scariest days of my life.
Since then she has had one about every 3 months, pretty much like clock work. She takes 3000mg of Keppra and 1000mg of Tegrotol daily. She was 7 months seizure free until 3 weeks ago. Monday her doc lowered her Keppra levels by 1000mg daily, and 4 days later she had one in the back seat of our friends car on the way to a basketball game.
I will just say this. I feel the stress daily when I leave her, and its a constant worry I wont be around or she will be by herself when one happens. She has also dislocated a shoulder during one last year. Just from the force of the body seizing.
Also, my wife suffers very aparent short term memory loss for about 3-4 days after a seizure. Will seem normal and will carry on a conversation, then the next day she has no clue you even spoke about something specific, or who was at the hospital, etc. Its very strange but we have learned to understand it. A week after, she is back to her old self and remembers everything but the seizure day.
Prayers to anyone living with a family member, or themselves having to deal with any type of seizures. Its life changing to say the least.Last edited by Bullydog; 12-31-2016, 07:07 AM.

My D-I-L texts our son when she has taken her meds, and if he doesn't get the text, he calls her.

my brother is an epileptic...meds help a little but theyre always changing his dosages to try and get the right combination...been doing that for 35 years. He actually went through with the surgery to remove the part of the brain where they were originating from at Mayo Clinic about 7 years ago. That fixed it for about 2 years, but then they came back...most people can get it under control with meds.
