Half bucket of marbles versus a full bucket. More OOMPH with more marbles. For long range shots on ducks and geese, 12 gauge.

30 yards in, sure a 20 works. At 15 yards more to these shots, I bet the 12, hands down, puts more birds in the bag.

    Nice recovery....

Duck with an O/U is cumbersome loading and unloading in a blind or without getting your barrels wet if you are wading. Besides that silver pigeon is too nice to take duck hunting...

      Also....look at minimum 28" barrels....
Couldn't have said it better myself. Spot on.

I have a closet full of OU's, about the only ones that make it out are the 20 and the 28, the 12's are gathering dust.

Dear Technoid, I was wondering why manufactures sold Turkey guns with a 24″ barrel and Waterfowl at 28 to 30″? I have been told by one resource that maximum muzzle velocity is achieved …

Just got my 20ga. in last week and stopped by Briley's today to grab some extended color coded Mobil Chokes from Peter. Can't wait to get out to American Shooting Range to start breaking some clays! Looking at getting a group of 4 of us from work/church to get out there once a month. Once we figure out what we're doing a bit, it would be great to widen the net and try to get a regular gathering out there maybe one Fridays 1x/month....I may post up a new thread to see if there would be any interest but if you read this, go ahead and post up here if you might be interested in jumping in. My group will be mostly hunters fairly new to skeet and wanting to approach it the right way learning etiquette,etc...while having a good time!!

Didn't read the responses and sorry if repeated...it really depends if you like a slimmer & lighter gun vs a heftier one.

I prefer a larger gun & shoot 12 OU's...for Dove I basically shoot 20ga loads either 7/8oz or 1oa in the 1150-1200fps range. Combine the weight with low recoil & it's a joy. I'm also about to send mine off to Briley for some 410 & 28ga tubes.

Others like a lighter gun in the field...I just don't swing them as well & feel whippy after slinging the heavy ones for so many years. Good luck.

I might be down for some clays out there. At least before it gets to be 112 anyway. Ive only done it at a real range once at Ables and had a ball.
