You have to purchase a hot spot from whom ever your cell provider is. Then it acts as a wireless router wherever you are. The device itself usually costs around $100 and then you have to pay a monthly charge to have it on your plan, and also know that it uses your data plan.

Bought the 3 camera Arlo at Sam's. So far no issues. I like the live camera option that I can watch from phone or iPad.

This piqued my interest a bit and got me looking beyond the Nest camera - for true wireless functionality you'd need to be able to record to a DVR without running a video cable which I've not seen in a system, does the Arlo system do this?

We did arlo also. Like said there is a delay but vid record time can be adjusted. Very easy to set and install

From the research I've done the video is uploaded to a cloud server, so there's no need for a DVR.

My understanding is that the Arlo Pro base station allows for you to hook external storage up (external hard drive, thumb drive, etc) for additional storage over what is allowed via their free cloud service.
