Where to get scrap C Purlin?

I need to practice welding some C Purlin, I guess the typical 14 gauge. Can anybody suggest a good place to get some scrap C Purlin to practice on? I'm about halfway between Hamilton and Lampasas.

If you get down this way, I can give you a couple 5' pieces. You don't have to weld purlin to purlin though. Purlins are welded to purlin clips which are usually 3/16" squares. The purlin overlaps the clip and gets welded to it. Not hard at all.

Thanks, Draco, I might swing by there Monday morning, if you'll be around. I have a 20 X 30 foot metal building that is built entirely of purlin-to-purlin welds. No clips.

I'm with Draco every time I ever used purlin I connected with clips. I'm scratching my head wondering how this is gonna work without turning purlin backwards and how it's gonna fit in I-beam.

If using rods, pick up some 3/32 6013. I found them to be easier/better than the 7018.

Even if it's purlin to purlin, you still would use clips, I'll send you a PM with my #.

We don't use the clip for the most part. He's correct on the rod choice. 7018 burns through to easy imo.
