Axis Skull Cap Mount

I shot my first Axis buck this summer and took it to my taxidermist to have it shoulder mounted. I have been looking real serious about taking another axis trip this summer and it gets me to thinking that I will more than likely be able to kill a bigger buck that this one. I would go with a euro mount but its too late because they cut it off for the shoulder mount. My taxidermist said it wasnt too late to do something with the skull cap and maybe use some of the hide. Do any of you guys have recommendations? Pics would be great. If I cant find anything ill stick with the shoulder I guess.

My concern is the size lol. When I shot him I didnt know anything about axis and was so excited so straight to the taxidermist we went. Now that I see some other guys pics Im not sure he is shoulder mount worthy!

IMO if it is special to you anything is worthy of a shoulder mount. If I did t mount something because others have shot bigger I wouldn't have any shoulder mounts

Get your taxidermist to do a euro with an artificial skull.

I was just messing with you. They make artificial skulls that you can screw the horns to. I would just do a skull cap mount and cover it with hide or a really cool leather on a mesquite plaque or something along those lines.

If you're happy with it and have the funds and space for 2 Id stick with a shoulder but if not you can do horns on a panel. I have a couple Im going to do similar to this but havent had time. Just might have to change the angle to fit the axis horns depending on shape.

To me a big part of the axis trophy is the hide with their beautiful spots. A skull cap wouldn't interest me in the slightest. I'd rather get the hide frozen and store it for a year or until I had the money to do a shoulder mount.

Mine was cut off to be shoulder mounted, but then the taxi's freezer went out and ruined the hide. So now I just have the skull plate on the mantle with a picture in front of it

Have it done with the skull cap covered with axis hide

A buddy has a similar turkey fan mount and it looks incredible

I have a 19 inch buck mounted....no such thing as too small to mount with axis. It's the whole animal that makes the mount.
