    Let's talk Water Softeners

Wife is convinced we need one....her hair is drying out...must be the water. So...every company that sells these won't give you a darn price on the phone, they want to dispatch a 'high pressure sales hack' to my house for a 'water test' and then put on the pressure tricks.....

I know TBH will shoot me straight. What brand you got? What did it cost you? Was it worth it?

Buy it straight from them. They'll ship it to you and you can install it yourself or hire your own plumber.

I bought a filter system from them recently, and although it took a couple of weeks for them to ship it, they've been helpful with my questions regarding installation and the system does what they said it would.

Oh also, order a water testing kit from amazon first to verify that your water is hard or has too much chlorine or whatever, then go from there. It's the same tests the sales people will use without all their razzle dazzle.

I agree - first get your water tested.

Are you on a well or city water (or something similar) ?
I have a well and it is a no brainer that we have hard water - just look at the faucets.
I bought a water softener from Sears about 7 years ago. It was a little work to install but I was getting the house replumbed after a water leak anyway. I installed it myself and now we don't have anymore problems with the dishwasher, clogged screen filters on faucets, and all the white deposits don't reappear on the faucets. Also, the shower glass stays much much cleaner.

Go with a home depot one...I too researched fleck ..and a few other expensive on demand units... good Ol fashioned all in one whirlpool and they are under 500$
I have well water too and it's very hard over 2000 tds and 140 hardness

Go with something with a Fleck head they are much better than what you will get in an all in one system.

Kinetico, 4 years ago it was around 2800, never have to give it a thought other than adding salt every 6 months or so.

another vote for Fleck. Bought mine online about 17 years ago. Had it shipped to me and I installed it myself. They are good units.

Get one that is water usage driven as to when it regens.

I went with the Fleck as well and it's been perfect. It was an easy install. It is best to put a filter in line just before the softener.
