    Laptop Help

What is a good laptop for around $500?

Only thing we will be doing is surfing the web, uploading and viewing pictures, using gopro software, editing videos, and so on. Don't need a ton of storage I don't think. Anyway, give me your thoughts.

Only thing I would suggest is buy more storage and ram than you think you need. Made that mistake once before. You can get on Dell website and they used to tailor a lab top to your needs. I've used it to get an idea on what I needed to shopick around

I bought a Dell laptop at SAMS for $350. Its not much but I only use it for school, email, ect. Would probably work well for you.

In for an answer too. My daughter is in the market for one to basically have as a way to get emails and connect to Dropbox while away from the office. My advice was look at HP, Dell, and ? I have not looked in a couple of years but there seems to always be a $450 to $650 price point and the another price point at $1,000 to $1,450. The thing that bugs me is the annual license for MS Office etc.
I bought a low end Toshiba in the $250/300 range. Big disappointment. Not much RAM, slow etc. Punch the key to do some work and go make a pot of coffee.

I am not familiar with GoPro or video but one of the ones I bought, Surface, does not have a DVD. Sounds like you may need that. Also whether I need or will ever use it I think I want something you can add RAM to. I think what I would really like is my old Windows 7(?) model. Good luck.

Bought a HP this time last year. Careful though, you have to buy the software to put on the dang thing. Thought I was getting a good deal at $350ish, plus$60-70 for the software.

I'd get a tablet as it would be more portable.

Can you do the video editing from a tablet? Or can you download the gopro software on a tablet?

This is a pretty good deal for the price range you suggested. Got it for my mom and it is extremely fast, has more ram than you will need for what you are going to be doing, and has an SSD which is gonna make it a good bit faster than a machine with typical hard drive.

Might can find a surface tablet for around that much. You can do anything on it that you can on a laptop. Just can't put a cd/DVD in.
