I just signed up for Christian Care and used it for the first time yesterday (went smoothly so far). The only hick-up I had was getting set up with them. I apparently got a new guy that had never set someone up before. I'm all about helping a new person out but he did make some mistakes. My wife called about a week after we signed up and found out they(he) had not recorded my payment. Had she not called, my family would have gone uninsured for a month. I will give them credit though, they are very helpful and caring on the phone. I truly believe my issue was just a rookie mistake on their part. It also reduced my premiums by 2/3. Very affordable for a family of four (so far, again I am brand new to this).

Just looked them up, seems like a great concept for health insurance.

I use Christian Healthcare Ministries... couple things to keep in mind about faith-based health insurance:
              Pre existing conditions likely excluded
Deductibles are not annual, they are per occurrence
              Usually No prescription coverages
Can have a max-payout amount (250k, or whatever)
And obviously some faith "requirements", a pledge form etc..

Oh also, they will have a quarterly "reckoning" where members must contribute to cover the needs of the group. I was told it works out to about $20/extra a month. I would expect that to grow this year because there are a TON of people moving to these plans.

Really not sure how they can label that Christian.

This "Christian" plan values the dollar over human life, if they are excluding pre-existing conditions

You can also look into a short term PPO combined with a MEC plan for your wellness and preventative care

I use it and it does cover pre-existings to some degree. http://www.chministries.org/preexistingconditions.aspx.

a maximum payout would scare the heck out of me. wife had a stroke this year and bill was way past a 250k amount. You can eat that up quickly now days.

I have sold medical insurance for 37 years and have seen some huge million plus claims incurred by a number of people.

They have the Brother's Keeper that has unlimited payout. I just enrolled in CHM. I will save over $10K per year in just premiums. Worst case I go to work for another company and go back to the high dolla kind.

Any broker recommendations that offer something besides BCBS and not on the exchange?

Through the State Bar of Texas, if you are an attorney or work for one, I was able to get a Scott and White policy. Not the best, but there is a hospital and docs close to me. I plan on changing once things start CHANGING in healthcare.

BCBS is about it in our area other than Scott and White. Aetna has a plan off exchange but it is a $6k deductible and expensive.

There are some hospitals in areas of Texas offering plans - Seton in Austin has one.
