    Mortocycle question

Find out which Yamaha is right for you. Find A Local Dealer Today, View Inventory, Get Prices & More. Models: R7, MT-07, Tenere 700, MT-03, YZ250F.

I was looking at this little motorcycle called a Yamaha V-Star 250. It gets something like 77 MPG. It is small (250cc) but would only be a commuter bike. I commute maybe 30 miles each way on back roads and do not anticipate taking this any farther than that.

I realize it would be underpowered, but heck, for $3000 new and 77 MPG, it seems like a good deal. Ideas?

I know you can get cold and wet on them. I knew someone that had one and I rode it. Nice bike just seems like it needs another gear.

Get a bigger bike 30 miles a day on that bike will get old real fast. At least 500 CC and up.You can pick up a nice used bike for 3000.00

            Ditto.....except I'd even go up to a 750cc.

Ditto, I've bought MANY used bikes in the 500cc-750cc range for less than that. A good cond. BMW R75/5 can be picked up for around what you are looking and they are GREAT commuter bikes. Thats just an example. There are many other great choices of course as well.

I would go bigger like everyone else has said. I have an 883 sportster and wish it was bigger for me. Also for 3k you should be able to find a really nice used bike.

If you are a short legged person forget the BMW BUT If not the R/75 is a great bike!

If this is his first bike he really doesn't need anything over 500cc. Let him get used to a smaller bike. I see too many newbies getting 750 to 1000 and have no business being on that big of a bike.

CHICK BIKE You would be cramped & hate it after the 1st couple of trips.

X2....that little thing will get you run over quick. You may very well only use it to commute and tend to stay on the backroads, but there will come a time when you will need or want to get on a bigger road. At least a 500cc...

Yeah, I can see your point there......my first bike was a 74' CB450 twin cafe racer with clip-ons, race seat, etc. That was plenty bike for me at the time. Still wish I had that thing. I've sold 3 classic cafe racers this year already. A 70' BSA Starfire 250, a 75' CB550/4, and a 74' Dunstall Racing CB750/4

Here's a pic of the 750. The original bike before slight restore was puchased for only $1450! in the DFW area.
