Pheasant on Trail Cam

Have no idea where this came from. A few have been sighted within a couple of miles of my place. Had to have gotten off of someone's ranch.

cool...suprised a yote or bobcat hasn't got him. my old boss turned 300 loose on his place down in freer. expensive, easy meal for the varmints. none survived

A couple years ago someone kicked a pair of emus over the fence onto our place. They eventually died on their own. One went pretty quickly and the other one lived for several months.

I'm not sure but think that would be treated as an exotic. I would wack him given the chance.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it doesnt look like he has a leg band on... which is a requirement of the TPWD for pen raised birds that are being released. The leg band must bear the license number of the individual who owns and releases the birds. If there is not a band on it's leg, it has to be assumed it is native, and Texas has a pheasant season. Like any other game bird or animal, I wouldnt want to be the guy that got caught with a pheasant out of season.
I released a large amount a couple of years ago and did it in conjunction with TPWD oversight. Tagged them all and everything. There were a number that survived and we saw them over a year later still in the area.

you can tell he is a pen raised bird though, because his tail feathers are too short. wild birds are much longer. looks like lunch to me!
