Not always, years back we had a deer that was shot by a poacher (sheriffs caught him) in the neck and saw it that night with blood coming down its neck in the same area as this deer. Same year doing a skull mount we found a 22 bullet in the neck meat.
While those are probably outliers it could happen.

Yes the dates are correct but the time is an hour off as I did not fall back when the time changed in Nov. These pictures were taken in the last few days.

That actually happened on our lease a few years ago.

We had a deer that was shot thru the brisket in archery season but showed back up a few days later on camera. The first week of rifle season a guy on the lease with us shot him in the neck and he went down. While my buddy was climbing out of the tower blind, the deer jumped up and ran off. Pretty comical watching from another stand about 600 yards away and seeing my buddy running back to get his gun that he left in the blind.

The last week of rifle season I was still trying to get a buck. Late one real cold morning out comes a 8 point with a little kicker off his left G2. I shot him and when we went to get him my buddy that was with me was the one who shot the deer in the brisket during archery season. He said , "hey that's my deer" when he saw the little kicker. When I picked up the deer's head to look at the rack, my buddy started laughing and said " I think that's Al's deer too. Look at his neck."
I looked at the other side of the deer's neck and most of it was gone and was just a big nasty wound, starting to scar over. We called Al and he said that the deer he shot had a little kicker on his G2. He shot him in the neck with a 300 RUM. The only thing I can think happened was he must have barely grazed the deer's neck.

That was one tough azz deer !!!
