    What's going on?!?

While driving home yesterday my husband and I noticed that all the dead deer on the side of the road...and even in the road had their heads cut smooth off!! It was a clean cut and about halfway down the neck.
Does anyone know who or why someone would do that!?!? I just thought it was strange.

The number of deer killed by cars goes up drastically during the rut.

With other thoughts on their minds, a higher than normal percentage is bucks.

Saw what i guessed was a buck beheaded on side of the road on I-20 between Cisco and Eastland yesterday as well. Had not seen one with the head cut off before either.

Never quite understood why that was illegal. If I find a carcass on my property, it's not illegal for me to take the skull, is it? I guess because it is on the public right-of-way it belongs to the state?
              Just curious.

Game warden’s will cut the head off bucks to keep people from stopping on the side of the road trying to take the horns and/or causing and accident.

I think I would report to the Operation Game Thief hotline.

There could be numerous reasons for these sightings - poachers ditching the bodies after harvesting the racks; game wardens cutting them off of car-hit bucks to prevent others from doing so; etc...still makes you wonder.

Yeah, a quick heads up to OGT would be a good idea.
