What is it with apartment complexes?

Crime is a given, I get that. They just appear to be a place that festers with it. Or maybe it's the location that is key.

It's probably best that the name of the city is not mentioned, for the sake of the homeowners. They have more than one house on their small acreage. When the houses were built, plenty of open, undeveloped land still surrounded them. They had a successful business and stored lots of equipment there. I believe at that time a small number of cattle could still be legally raised in the city limits. It was pretty much still a quiet part of town. Not so anymore.

Big houses are all lined up to the north and northwest. Immediately to the west is a big apartment complex. Many years ago, the homeowners with the acreage had a tall and long span of expensive wrought iron fencing installed. That must have been quite an expense. Recently I noticed they were selling out. Looked like one of the homes was burglarized. I felt sorry for them with how drastically the area has changed around them. Then just yesterday, while passing by, an open space in the fencing became visible. Looks like perhaps a low profile jack was used to spread the bars in order to gain entry. The owners at one time may have generally felt safe. I can certainly relate to undesirable changes like that. What was once a decent place to live, now feels hostile and hopeless. Seems to be a common theme these days.

          not to stereotype but.....

i'd assume the apts went to accepting section 8 vouchers. whenever i was in school and living in apts that's the first question i would ask of the managers. if it were a sect 8 property then i would move on to the next location....those places were crime ridden.

same thing happening here. Just 5 years ago, I didn't have an apartment complex within 10 miles of me. Today, have about 9 massive complexes. Yes, they are nice and brand new.... In 15 years they will be hell holes with trash living in them.

What I should have mentioned, is the house on this particular property that was burglarized is closest to the apartment complex. The section of fence that was damaged by a trespasser is even closer to the complex. The intruder chose a spot in the fence where there isn't much light at night. And it's further away from the houses, but directly across the street from the apartments.

Location.......and how they are managed. Some places are nice and won't just let anyone in. Plenty laws on the books to curb crime we jus have a societ that seems to lack good judgement.

Our neighborhood down here in Corpus Christi is in the suburbs and has been fairly isolated, nice homes valued between $250k - $1mm+.

We raised nine kinds of hell to keep a developer from building a section 8 government funded type apartment complex.

The city/county LOVE our tax base and our contribution to services none of us use, but they have no problem giving incentives to a developer to come in and ruin our home values.

I'm going to find some acreage in the country and build a barndominium off their radar screen as soon as my son graduates.

These apartment complexes are the ruin of many a good community. The govt wants the poor people to live in nice neighborhoods thinking they will adopt the ways of the more affluent, but it just doesn't work.

yep. The pattern is there and can't be denied. They can only call those who say something racist or some other libtard word.

I lived in an apartment complex for 1 year back in college. Had it broken into and my laptop and a bunch of audio equipment robbed. Two weeks before I was moving out a buddy of mine that lived in another building said he saw some guys taking pics of my motorcycle in the parking lot. I took it to a buddy's shop right then and it never returned there.

The thing that ticked me off was you could have a guy sitting in his car in the parking lot watching buildings for people to leave so he could rob them and there wasn't much you could do about it if he said he was waiting on a friend to come home. Lived in a house ever since, haven't been robbed again...
