    Update: Kansas Slow.....so far!

    Hey Guys,
1st, I am getting your text messages but cannot respond or call due to VERY poor signal here in southcentral Kansas! I guess I get the text messages when the wind blows or something. I literally drive about 12 miles to the nearest hill to make calls at night.
2nd, I spent 12 hours on stand yesterday and saw a doe with yearling in the morning and slick 4 point in the evening. Today I was shut out completely. The area I scouted and set-up on last month is DEAD! The acorns are completely gone and the "deer superhighway" has minimal deer hoof's now. I did not even see a deer at a distance. My buddy Mike did miss his first deer (doe) this morning. He is 60 and has never deer hunted until last year and decided to try it with one of my old bows! I think he is HOOKED! Oh, he missed the young doe at about 7 yards. He also saw 4-5 other does with yearlings but did not have any shots. Regrettably he had to drive back to the Witchita area for work tommorrow.
3rd, I will hunt the ladder stand he missed the doe in tommorrow morning and hopefully catch a buck slipping up since the girls are there. If zero luck I will head over to the place where I hunted the last 2 years with my climbing stand since some good rubs have been seen there. I am a little concerned that the bucks are layed up with does already. No deer are being spotted on fields and oddly zippo dead deer on the Kansas turnpike or farm roads! We drove to Wellington and Ark City today to pick up a few things but strangely nothing was seen.
Lastly, THANKS for all the well wishes and since my laptop seems to be holding a signal I will update tommorrow night.........good or bad!!! Oh, I am staying in one of the old farmhouses that will be used by some rifle hunters next month. The guide who will be using the house brought over two VERY nice mounts from last years bowhunters. (Huge 8 pointer and sweet looking 11 pointer) Yep, I got the pics of them and hope to post if I can find my cord.

Well folks I am off to the ladder stand. It is 32 degrees but the wind is already 8 miles per hour. Heated socks and Heater Body Suit are part of the arsenal. Hope to have a good report later today!!!!!!!!!

Good luck. I think you are right the bucks are hemmed up with the does. I hope they are moving before turkey day. You still got time.

Stick with it, Landrover, bound to be some big bucks getting desperate for "tail" at the tail end of the rut.

By the way, how's the Heater Body Suit working out for you? Staying warm?

Sit all day Oscar. I found that when the bucks are locked with a doe the best time to catch them by themselves is when the does bed mid day.
