    65 Year Old Ammo!!!

Just want some opinions. Long story short I came into owning 1200rds of 8mm mauser all brass military rounds stamped 1951 & 1952 for FREEE!!! The 8mm ammo were in sardine cans which were in unmarked 500rd wood crates. I opened them up assuming the box was 7.62x51, since the guy I got them from said they were, and found an unfamiliar round. After some quick measurements and internet browsing I found I was the surprised owner of 8mm mauser ammo that I had no gun for. Now since a have a plethora of ammo should I go get a $300 military rifle/$350 hunting K98sporter rifle and have fun or sell it? If I sell it how would I do so and for how much?

I've got an 8mm Mauser from my grandfather. What do you want for it?

That's a good bit of 8mm. Might as well buy the gun. I've got a sporter and it is a decent gun.

That is probably full metal jacket military ammo.....not sporting...

The sport part refers to the configuration of the rifle, not the ammo.

I think I would just have to buy another rifle and put that ammo to use.

I was referring to the type of bullet...full metal jacket vs expanding soft point...you should also check the type of primers used....they may be corrosive...

Buy the gun if your finances allow it. Then go out and have some fun.

X 2. Thats a lot of lead to send down range at some piggies.
