Looking at buying a kayak for myself any info would be appreciated. I have no idea what to buy don't want to end up with some junk. But I'm not trying to break the bank either. Lol

    Thanks for the help

There's a 12ft perception pescador on here in classifieds right now that's a great deal. I have one that's 10ft and wish I'd bought the 12.

Got to disagree. I've had two now and really like them. Have not had any problems or issues with either. I may be looking to sell my Ascend H12 soon due to shoulder issues. It's a great boat for the money and is extremely stable. I'm 6'4" and 300lbs and can stand in it and fish fine. Paddles good and tracks well. Lots of storage space and a 450lb capacity.

Go onto craigslist and search for the Ocean Kayak. I loved all of the ones I owned. There are about a thousand out there that are good yaks. Depending on what you want to you, you will sacrifice speed for stability and vise versa. I fished out of a tandem for a while and liked the stability. For a river, I would probably look at a 12 ft yak. Ill stress that you get a roto-mold yak, not the cheap ones that academy sells that come in two pieces, then fixed together. Other than that, if it looks good, solid without any holes in the bottom, and is comfy for you, you should be good. Just decide on a price you are looking to spend, and get to searching. The second dilemma comes when you start outfitting it, lol.

I also bought a 12 ft. Perception Pescador about a year ago. Caught many a fish out of it so far. While certainly not the top of the line, it is a good introductory kayak and the price is good. Academy sells them and occasionally puts them on sale for 20% off.

river fishing you want 12' or shorter, coast/bay fishing you want a yak 13'+ to track better and carry more gear.
do you want to be able to stand and fish?
do you want a wet butt all day?
do you want to paddle or use foot power?
do you want a yak you can carry on your shoulder for portage, or one that needs a cart?

i would recommend buying a used yak that is already set up right, with minimal wear, and head out fishing. you could easily spend $300 or more setting up a yak, not including fish finder, or actual cost of the plastic boat.

Love my pescador perception. Very reasonably priced and very tough had mine for two years and been across many oyster reefs with little to no wear. I am 6'2" and 240lbs and it tracks very well.

Ascend is a Bass Pro label just like Red Head and I worked for them many years back. In my opinion it's junk but it does cost less than what I consider good kayaks so if you can baby the soft plastic then good on ya
