    Harper Hunt

I am headed out to hunt my lease in Harper tomorrow. Thursday morning is suppose to be dry w a season low temp of 21 degrees. There have been some good deer killed this year on my lease but our usual one big deer has remained hidden. I have a few on my 3 game cams that I would take if the opportunity was available since this maybe my last hunt of the season. Last week I had little movement in 70 degree weather, the question is should it be better when its COLD???

My experience it is better when cold. The deer move a little more to get their body temps up. Good luck and don't freeze your a** off!

I hunt south of you in between Harper and fburg. To answer your question I think it depends on how your hunting. If your rifle hunting the answer will be yes if your able to see down multiple senderos and , brush lines or fields. I think the cold weather gets them moving to look for foods. It your bow hunting a feeder your at the mercy of chance. If that big boy decides to make his way by your feeder the day and time your sitting there waiting. My experience is that this late in the season the bucks aren't really regulars at feeders anymore. The rut is over and most of there early season hangouts have been forgotten and they're prolly cruising new spots from chasing for he past month. Really it doesn't matter in this area , Gillespie county is one of the denses populations of WT deer in the country. You'll see plenty of deer. Good luck brother... let us know. I'll be up too Thursday thru Tuesday.

Thanks, kinda what I am hoping is that the extreme cold for this area will make them at least get up and move.. just hoping w added movement my chances may rise a little. We have a lot of deer but the mature ones have only been seen on camera near where I hunt.

I may hunt out at my buddies place in Harper sometime this weekend. Like xtrm-hunter mentioned, we've seen a ton of deer, just none of the bigger mature bucks. The place is low fenced and not known for having huge deer but there are some decent ones out there.

Good luck if you head out xtrm-hunter!

Hunting has been fairly slow at our lease in Harper. I will be going down on Friday evening and staying until Monday. I hope the hunting turns around. This is our last year on the lease and I hope to harvest some of these bucks that we have been growing for the last 6 years....LOL.

U too.. Foster.. I dont get to hunt early so I have been in the stand a lot since Nov 1 and I have had few bucks work towards my crossing or feeder.. My rifle buddies have done well but away from their feeder areas. since this is my last hunt I will have the rifle in my stand if I see a very nice one at a distance.
