engine code help and advice for a fellow tbher for 05 z71 5.3

i have a 05 z71 with the 5.3 liter motor, and last night my check engine light came on,and it started running rough at an idle so i went to the local auto part store and was able to get these codes from it p o131 p 0171 p0300 and p 0300pd and p 0171pd, which basically means the engine is running to lean,so i went across the street to local GM dealership, and talk to the serivce dept guys, and they told me that its my fuel pump, and that the gas now days has alot of methanol in it that is eating up these fuel pumps. so what im wanting to know if there might be something else beside the fuel pump. so any advice or suggestions will be appricated.

Change your fuel filter and erase the codes by removing the negative side of the battery for 30 to 60 scones.
If you get the codes again, change the fuel pump and reset the codes again.

Good luck, if you look in google you can find those codes so you can see what each on is.

I haven't got my software downloaded yet. New PC. But, the p0300 series is Ignition System or Misfire and the p0100 series is Fuel air Metering. I'm getting ready to leave for the rst of the day. I hope this helps some.

You can get a fuel pressure tester and put it one the fuel rail port to get fuel pressure readings. They have them for free wth a deposit at autozone if you dont have one, but its an engine misfire for p0300.

0131 is the bank 1 O2 sensor before the converter and is a low voltage reading, which could be a bad O2 sensor or running lean.

0171 is system is too lean on bank 1.

Well from my experience as Toyota tech the lean code on a newer vehicle points 99% of the time to a bad MAF(mass air flow meter) small unit inlin between air filter box and actual intake. Should be 2 screw holding it in. take it out and look to se if it looks dirty down inside. Blow it out with your mouth and reinstall. PO300 -PO308 would be misfires with po300 being random multiple cylinder misfire. Check plugs for "whitish discoloration" points to lean engine. An exaust leak near catalytic converter can also allow extra oxygen/air into exaust showing a lean code detected by excess oxygen near catalytic converter.

guide boy, it runs the roughest when the truck is cold,it seems as the truck warms up it smoothes out. i herd everything from bad gas to fuel pump so at this point i dont know.
