Oh, and definitely try and go ahead and make your reservations for the bunkhouse. You'll be glad you did. The backside of the headquarters where they do orientation has a kitchen also, so you have a stove and a sink to wash up dishes.

They have good topo maps of the place that they'll give you on the hunt. Unless you're not familiar with how to read them or if you're just bad with directions I don't think you'll need to use a GPS unit much. But if you have one, it wouldn't hurt.

Stick with the .243 if she's recoil shy. Don't let her take any long shots. We shot all of ours between 10 and 150 yards. Actually, Zach took an offhand shot at about 300 yards and missed (I forgot my shooting sticks), but all the others were close. I made a set of shooting sticks out of a couple yucca stalks and a spare boot lace after that shot. They worked GREAT for the rest of the hunt. We used those sticks and other yucca stalks for walking sticks as well. There are gazillions of yuccas everywhere, so finding a good strong, light, and straight stick to use is no problem.

We made shooting sticks out of sea cane, (kind of like bamboo).

Please take lots of pics and post them on here when you get back. I think we would really like to see them. Best of luck.

If it's her hunt and she's comfortable with the 243 that's what. I would take. This one died at Thanksgiving from a 50gr 223! Wasn't my first choice but it's what he was comfortable shooting.
