Need Your In Put on Trading Rifle

I have a Weatherby MarkV .270 Weatherby Magnum Wood,in excellent shape.i have been trying to sell with no luck.
Question have any of you traded a gun at one of the Box stores Cabella's, Carters country and felt you have gotten a fair deal or are guns like cars trading cars. I have looked at Gun Broker,Guns America Guns International and it appears Weatherbys are all over the board on pricing.

When I can't trade or sell on TBH I have had good luck on texasguntrader.com. I've bought and sold several guns on there.

Typically, on any retail trade deal, you're going to get 25-30% of private sale value. They want to double their money but not have to set on it very long. Trade ins are a poor business practice. (for you anyway)

Are you asking a fair price for it?

In my experience trading guns in to those shops it's like a car they're going to leave a lot of margin for them to make their money off your trade so you'll probably be offered 60% value

After looking at completed auctions on GB, it appears the ones that actually sold brought $12-1500 from a gun store. I figure they'll hit you with about a $600 offer and might go as high as $750. That's a high end gun with a limited market. You can build a custom for that price. Your best bet is hold on to it, market it in several different avenues to get the maximum exposure to buyers. There's a buyer out there somewhere, just have to get it in front of him. What price are you hoping for? Also, private trade will sweeten the deal as well. Someone might be in the same boat as you.

As hooligan said, from a monetary standpoint, you likely wont get close to the value of the gun.

But from a utilization standpoint, if you trade in a gun that seldom/never gets used for a gun that you like and use all the time, then that might help take some of the pain out of it.

Do your research, know what you want and what you're willing to take on the trade value, and you could come out of it in not that bad of a position.

You never sold it because you wanted WAY too much for it. Not a ton of people like the 270 weatherby. It's a pretty gun and I owned one in 257 that was a great gun but it was listed a good while by the guy I traded it to for $1500 and it just sat. And that gun in 257 is about as popular as it gets. Your scope isn't worth a ton. But a good optic. A gun shop will probably offer you half or a little more than half of your asking price on here. I think you can get $1300-1500 from the package to the right buyer. The retail price on those guns is crazy high and they are slow movers. I hope this helps
