    combat mindset instruction

My sister's husband passed yesterday. Thank you in advance for your condolences.

She told me at Thanksgiving (when it seemed likely she would lose him) that she wanted to get her concealed carry license since she'll be living alone in a semi rural area.

Warning bells went off in my head. She has never fired a gun.
Her personality is such that if she doesn't get some good instruction, I think it would be unwise but also I believe she needs to be able to defend herself.

Anyone can take a test and be "licensed" but that doesn't prepare you to use it should the need arise.
Is there a female friendly course that teaches something like a combat mindset for women?

This isn't the time to worry about such things I know but thought you might have a suggestion I can bring up at a later time with her.

She is in the Cypress/Tomball area.

I always recommend ranges that use facing targets and that have simulators. She doesn't need to have a combat mindset if you can build muscle memory. Threat faces, finger squeezes.

I personally don't know of any it that area but I'm sure there are some women friendly classes available.

My condolences and prayers to your Sister, you and all the family and friends.

Shiloh has a female instructor if that would ease the transition to handling a gun. I sat in on a private lesson I bought for my wife and daughter.

Shiloh Shooting center in her area focuses on womens only LTC classes that go over things that women need.

Tracy teaches it and does private instruction as well. I am in the Cypress area as well and would even take her out to shoot.

Every gun store I've been to has had signs for female oriented courses. Boyert shooting center was one, Athena Gun Club, where I shoot regularly, has them as well. Just have to drive a ways to get there, but Athena is like a country club inside, with great employees, not intimidating at all.

There was a range in my area called Reality Defense and they did women's LTC courses and incorporated self defense classes into the course. They have since relocated south of San Antonio. David Presley ran the range and was a good instructor. They incorporate live role playing in the defense classes. I haven't spoke to David in quite a while but last he told me, he was still up and running. Just looked him up and it seems he is in full swing. http://realitydefense.net/
254-977-4473 looks like they are in Pleasanton Tx now. David is a great instructor!

                  Thanks y'all

I'll be away from the GS for a few days probably but I'll catch up on responses later.

Two people already posted my thoughts. Shiloh has a Concealed Carry and NRA safety course for women, by women. That should be her first step.

Combat mindset is great; but a more advanced skill set. Let her crawl before she walks. Then let her run when she is ready. A little (local) female perspective how to handle a gun safely and well, is the place to start without task overload.

360 Tactical Training has all kinds of classes at Memorial Shooting Center, as well as an outdoor range in Pearland. They have CHL classes, ladies firearm classes, home invasion classes, guns and vehicle classes, beginner firearms classes, etc... All of the trainers are former military and police officers with a lot of experience between them. I've taken a few classes with them and am waiting for the right time to take more. It's a little drive from the Tomball area, but well worth the instruction.

A bit of a drive (an hour or so) but Trinity Bay Tactical has a state of the art training simulator that is awesome for teaching situational awareness and combat effectiveness. Very good instructors as well and I believe one of them is female

It's located in the Baytown/Mont Belvieu/Beach City area
