    Teal Hunting Questions

So I'm fairly new to duck hunting. I did a little last year with a good friend, as well as made one hunt of my own. My questions are: Can you hunt teal during the regular duck season? If so, do teal count toward your six ducks? or can you shoot a separate total of 6 teal in addition to your other 6 ducks?

I realize that we have an early teal season in September, but the hunting guide doesn't address teal during the general duck season. It lists your bag limits for all kinds of other ducks during the general season, but doesn't mention the bag limits for teal. Under the "Teal" section of the guide, it only lists the September Teal Only season and bag limits. Under the General Duck Season section of the guide, it says you can have 6 of "other species not listed." If you can't hunt teal during the regular duck season, why would they name it "Early Teal?"

Once the regular season rolls around, I'm planning on heading out to do some duck hunting again and would like some clarifications before I start blasting away at birds... Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Teal count towards your daily bag limit.

Yep, they're not counted separate during regular duck season.

As others have said, we like to to avoid shooting teal during big duck season as they count towards your daily bag limit but dang its hard to pass them up sometimes

Teal and big duck together towards your daily bag limit. Merganser are separate from your daily bag limit as well as coot. So here's an example you can shoot 2 teal 2 woodies and 2 mallards. You can also have shot 15 coots, and how many ever Merganser the limit is on em. Most guys only shoot 6 ducks teal or big duck and call it a day.

Awesome guys. Thanks so much for the clarification. This is what I needed. I went on one hunt last year and passed up a few ducks because I wasn't keen on identifying as well as the bag limits. I stayed legal, but realized I needed to study up a bit more before I really started pulling the trigger like I want to. So the answer is that you CAN hunt teal during the regular duck season, but they DO count toward your 6 duck limit. Thanks also, for the clarification about coots and mergansers.

But why in the world would you shoot coot and mergansers. Yuck!
