For those of you on here that hunt old rickety box blinds be careful, that being said let me tell you what happened to me at 430 this morning. I was on my way to my spot and had to cross I front of another members stand on my way, I noticed the door was open when I shined my light up to the 20ft tall tower stand made of wood and been probably standing there for close to 20 years. So I climbed up those rickety steps to close the latch and saw a hole in the landing right at the top step. I placed my rifle on the hand rail of the landing and stepped over the hole (was the size of a coffee can) to reach the other side of the platform for a good footing. Remember this is 430 in the morning and I have yet to drink my redbull which was in my pack on my back. The entire landing gave way under the weight of one boot.....yes I fell the full height of the stand to ground on my back in the dark.....painfully I get up and check myself for injuries thankfully I had none except my pride and some slight bruises. I landed on my field pack and that broke my fall. But my rifle was still up there on the railing. So after cussing up a storm, laughing and more cussing I climbed back up the stairs to retrieve my rifle. My redbull was damaged in the fall so I was only able to get a sip or two. But I'm alive and without any real injury thank God. So please be careful out there my brothers and sisters from the GS.

One of my lease mates has a questionable high up bow blind. I patched up the landing for him but I told him he should kiss the ground and thank God he survived another hunt every time he climbs down. If I'm on the place next year I need to talk him into a rebuild so he doesn't have a thread along these lines.
