What's wrong with this deer head?

Shot this deer this morn. Thought he might have been hit by a car. After a closer look I'm not so sure. He didn't have any teeth as well. Did not show any signs of weakness just looked feeble. Would you eat him?

We have one that looks similar and another spike that has blood streaks down his face from each antler base.

I would guess he got hung on something that ripped his skin. I can't quite tell, but it looks like it was starting to heal.
