Anyone else ever had trouble with rnt service? I had a bad experience a couple of years ago and have kinda swore off of them. I do have a couple of FDWC calls that I really like now.

We started hunting a few years ago now. Our first season we did nothing more than decoy and play the wind. Then started calling some the next season. I still call sparingly. I don't call at all to ducks that are going to decoy. If they look like they aren't, then I use the call sparingly. Sometimes less is more. The first season we hunted I will put more success on keeping away from the call and playing the decoy game. I still don't like mojo ducks. The few times I tried they flared every time. Took them down and the ducks came right in.

Whoever said a duck call was the greatest conservation tool ever created hit the nail on the head.
Getting decoys in the right place and covering up is key.
When I was really obsessed with duck hunting- I had a whistle, haysels blue wing teal, and a gadwall call on my lanyard.
Using pintail and wigeon calls on a whistle is effective on everything in the central flyway.

Yeah I've seen more birds flare before they ever got close enough to see the decoys to guys calling on public land. It cracks me up to hear the dudes trying their best to do some competition style calling at birds when they can't even do a halfway decent quack ! I watched a dude the other afternoon while scouting whaling on a call at a flock of water turkey's and it was comical to say the least to listen to him. Like said above get down a whistle and use that if anything until you have your calling down. And then just use that sparingly as needed. If birds want to be where you are they don't care one bit about hearing a call at all

It's not about what duck call you use. I think a lot of people say not to use a duck call because they can't call very well(no offense to you guys). You need to find a duck call that suits your breathing. Call at birds that are 100 yards out(just a cadence or two) anything closer than that do a feed call in a whistle(but not very much). And that's just on open water. Small ponds the decoys should do the work for you. A lot of people with calls make a lot of unnatural sounds I've noticed too. I.e. Championship calling and people just plain sucking. Watch some instructional videos, and listen to a lot of videos of ducks feeding. You'll really start to notice chuckle feed calls don't really sound like them eating. It takes a lot of practice! I started making my own calls to fit my own needs.

Gunna bump this oldie up.
Been taking advantage of the Avian-X decoy sale at academy and loaded up.
I by no means plan on calling the remainder of this season but want to snag a few calls to practice.
Primarily hunting east and SE of Houston so any advice on what calls to have and what videos to watch and practice is appreciate
