    How fast can you hike????

I'm trying to put together a scouting trip for next summer and want to hike into multiple location. The only problem is I dont know how long I need to give myself at each location. I know there are a lot of of DIY hunters on here and i was just wondering about how many miles can yall hike when yall are in the mountains with a loaded pack. Say 30 lbs. pack.

When I was in scouts we went on a long hiking trip. I wanna say we were coving between 2.5-3 miles an hour

        Packing, mostly between 40-55 lbs

Elevation, terrain and weather will determine that. It would be ideal for you to be able to keep a 4mph pace for at least six miles with a 30-50 pound pack prior to the trip.

Flat, easy walking....3.5 to 4 mph. Rugged terrian, 1.5 to 2 mph. Mountains, I have no idea.

Went to Philmont as a scout. Our average was 8 to 10 miles a day. Average pack was about 42 lbs. About a 110 mile trek.

If this trip is in the mountains,I bet you will only average 1-2 mph.Altitude will be a factor, and so will your acclimation period

I want to stop at 3-4 spots with the shortest hike being 3 miles and longest being 6. Do y'all think this would be possible in a 5 day trip?

Yes. Of course it will depend on how far of a drive between the 4 hikes.

Three that I'm for sure going to are in the same mountain range. The 4th is about an hour and a half away from the other.

I just got back from a hunt around 6000 ft. We had about 40lbs on our backs. It's was pretty thick stuff at a decent incline. We covered 2 miles in a hour. The first mile was a trail then second mile u made ur own. If ur scouting I would think u would want to b there at a spot in morning or evening. Hike to next spot during middle of day. Drive to your other area during dark.

I would like to spend 1 morning and 1 afternoon at each spot whether that means hiking up at lunch and sleeping on the mountain or just spending the day.

It took me 9 hours to get to my elk camp 9 miles in the wilderness at 10,500 feet with a 65# pack. It took 5 hours to get out with 45# because the truck was below 9000 feet.

It took me 8 hours to get to the top of Colorado (Mt. Elbert) with no pack and 2 hours to get back. It was about 4 miles each way.

Above 10,000 feet I slow down. Above 12,000 feet I am crawling, above 13,000 feet I take one step every minute or two.

Elevation is the key in the mountains. If you are below 9000 feet, the kids won't even feel the altitude.
