4.5 hr wait total. $112 total we got 2lbs brisket, 1lb sausage, 1lb pulled pork, lil turkey some slaw, potato salad, beers. Delicious brisket, sausage had great snap but was so fatty it watered down the flavor. Great turkey and pulled pork. Good potato salad and coleslaw BBQ sauce was excellent. Would recommend but probably only do the pickup service and only after I've tried about 5 other places

It's not *THAT* much more expensive than any other BBQ place.
            Fraknlin's brisket is $20/lbs
            most placs want $15-$18/lbs

Franklin wants $17/lbs for other meats
Other places want $15/lbs for other meats

Killen's and Gatlins here in Houston aren't much cheaper than Franklin's and the wait times can be up there was well (Gatlin's ALWAYS runs out of food too)

I can go out to the Salt lick. Wait two hours and pay about 90 bucks for 4-5 to eat. But yah. Franklins is good. Take a cooler. Talk to interesting people. It's fun. Once.

No waiting in line for food over 2 hours is worth it.

Exactly, we had to do it once, probably won't go back but sometimes you have to figure out if you're missing something special. Overall it wasn't worth the money or the time but we will talk about that Sunday morning when we waited for 4.5 hrs with a 1 year old for BBQ for years to come. Also it was my daughters first taste of BBQ so it was worth it to watch her love it https://vimeo.com/192374658

Nope, tourist trap. We did the line once, but not for long when we saw people saving places and the line growing longer in front of us. It was sort of a college tailgating atmosphere. We left. I'm sure there are some guys on here that can whup up some awesome grub for less than $700. The wife commented that she would hate to wait in line this long and it not be much better than mine. We went on a tour while we were there in Austin and the guide kept pointing out all these bbq joints, but never once mentioned Franklins. The Green Mesquite came highly recommended. I've eaten at Luling and Coopers, those are more my taste. And don't have to wait for hours. The reason I had wanted to do it was to say, "Been there, done that". But now I don't have to.

It used to be very similar. John Lewis and Aron Franklin opened Franklin's at the beginning. John was the pit boss at Franklin's. John Lewis left and was then hired by Le Anne Mueller (hence the name LA Barbecue) to take over when her brother John Mueller was having issues. John Lewis left La Barbeque and runs Lewis BBQ in Charleston. John trained the staff well before he left La Barbeque. It is just as good as Franklin's and less of a line.
