Thanks amigos. Surf fishing has become my poison. Shark fishing is my thing but i'll try and catch anything that wants to take my bait. Catching fish on the surf is very rewarding to me.

I never know what to look for, how far out to throw or wade. Its a shot in the dark. Never know what to watch for except for birds as im driving down a stretch of beach (mostly the upper gulf coast).

I like looking for deep guts with cuts in the sandbars. Basically if you pay attention to the water breaking on the bars you will notice in some places the water doesn't break near as bad. That means there is a deep spot on the bar. Fish use those deep bar cuts to travel from gut to gut.

Shell on the waters edge usually means shell on the bars which attract fish.

As for tackle, well that is a lot to explain.

Light tackle for trout using live bait or lures.

A long rod in 30-40lb class for redfish, jackfish, pomps and sharks up 6' will work. Fishbites, live bait, cut bait and shrimp will get it done.

Big sharks require a big bait and tackle approach.

        Hope this helps some.

        Ray

Man, that looks like a blast. It'd be a party catching a bunch of those on medium spinning tackle.

So what's it like eating them? Is it light, flaky meat, or what?

The raw meat feels weird. Its kinda tough and oily. Frying it is pretty dang tasty. Broiling it is pretty awesome. Grilling it is out of this world. Its very white meat.
