Remmy will prob be tighter fit and better finish overall....but you can't beat Savage for out of the box accuracy.

I believe that the Remington will shoot a tighter group out of the box than the Savage

I thought Gander had a Rem 700 in youth but was mistaken. Does Rem make a youth model in the 700

My wife has a youth 700 243. Came out of the box with a trigger so bad you could hang the rifle by the trigger on your finger and bounce hard and wouldn't fire. I reworked the trigger to about 4#. My savage will stomp a mud hole in my 700's... as most I've seen will unless you spend $1k+ on a sendero... then you get a much prettier gun that shoots as good as an ugly savage

Savage Axis and 700 aren't really In the same category. Saying that I really want an Axis in 223 to get good practice in at the range.

I have had savages since the old model 99's and was in the firearm business for a long time. Savages I have always thought were about the most accurate out of the box for the money there is. Not the prettiest, but shooters. That said I have a buddy that used to sell Mossberg and I bought my son the .243 youth and it has an accutrigger and shoots lights out for not much $$!!!

Went to Gander Mountain and walked out more confused than I went in. Asked the guy working the counter I wanted to see youth model in savage 243. Then he says I have a compact. It's shorter than the one he said was a youth model. I was puzzled at how the compact was shorter barrel. I look on savage website & they spec the compact as 20" barrel. However Gander site labels the gun as youth package. Light bulb moment earlier...compact is their youth model

Yes. On sale at bass pro. I prefer longer barrels for muzzle blast reasons.
I simply shortened the stocks on our R.E.M. And savages

You don't see many folks building custom rifles off a savage action that's for sure. The old school 700's are hard to beat!

Yes I love my dads Rem 700 BDL 270. Gun was bought in fall of 74 & it still shoots lights out & very nice action. He had the trigger lightened on it and I love deer hunting with it.
