    How often Grunt/Bleat?

I'm just curious how everyone approaches utilizing game call for whitetail. Especially this time of year when deer are more vocal.
I personally never hunt without a can bleat and a grunt during this part of the year. Of course I typically don't utilize them unless I can see the animal and then adjust according to the reaction. But like most, I'm guessing, if the action is slow I will give out a little bleat from the can or grunt occasionally.
Of course rattling is another story all together and I use them occasionally. Never seems to be very affective in east Texas. Although I hear bucks fighting every year and have pictures of broken up antlers.

I have pretty much convinced myself that blind calling is a bad idea. I had it work once and that ruined me a little bit for it. I now think k all it does is alert anything in the area of my presence, and not in a good way. I have had more luck deer hunting when I make no noise.

Can't argue with that. Although when I got winded this morning the doe blew and I immediately grabbed the bleat. And although she was directly down wind she just settled down and walked away.

I have found grunting to be very effective. I primarily use it when buck is already located and look for bucks reaction. I always strart off very soft and progressively get louder. As soon as buck takes step in my direction i stop completely. If buck turns away I give it one more try and if he is not interested i back off. On several occasionss i have grunted at immature deer and proceeded to call in a mature buck.

I have use this approach myself. I actually harvested this buck in Kansas SPOT N STALK. Used the grunt to get him so him range.

It works, on the right day with the right deer. I have rattled up many bucks in the hill country during pre-rut and early rut. I think deer density needs to be good. The sound of grunts and bleats don't travel near as far as rattling and the only time I even try them is to bring a buck I'm watching into range.

Apparently I've never found the right day or deer. I've grunted at bucks who where clearly rutted up and during the right time of year.

The first grunt would stop the buck but I've never got that typical...oh heck no, not in my house reaction

When I shot the buck pictured he was bedded down at first site. As I tried to get closer he spooked and I immediately hit the grunt. It was like hit hit with a hammer. He spun around a grunted every step of the way. All on video. Was pretty awesome to see a buck react that way.

I've rattled in more blindly than grunting at deer I see.
I'm in the hill country and have a good buck to doe ration. Not sure if that matters.

I am just talking about blind calling. Now it's possible that when I have done this there were just no deer around, so therefore I saw none. It just seems like if I grunt, rattle, bleat every 15/30 minutes I see nothing. If I sit and wait I'll see more deer. I have had luck calling and getting deer at least closer than they would have been otherwise. Mainly with a grunt tube. I am talking about when I hunt in Wisconsin. In Texas when I'm sitting at a feeder don't call at all.

I have attempted grunting and rattling but with no success. All of my hunting is done on Fort Hood which is very heavily pressured and Harrison County on private land which is heavily pressured all the way around with deer leases. I have tried calling, deer ****, Tinks spray mists and Buck Bombs and have never had any luck with any of it.
