How are New Caney and Porter schools?

My wife and I are trying to decide where we are going to live with my new job being in the Houston area. That area is about as far from work as I am willing to commute. I like that north/east side of town. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to The Woodlands/Spring/Conroe well before you go to NC or Porter..

Kingwood schools are a lot better than both of those. Between the two of them, a slight nod goes to Porter. What ages are your kids?

My kids go to NCISD and we have no issues.

To hell with those kingwood and woodlands taxes.

There is a member on here who just so happened to be the president of the New Caney school board I'm sure he can give you plenty of info.

We don't have any kids yet but are hoping to change that. We just want to be in a good place when that does happen

I have four in NCISD, all in the Porter area. I graduated from Kingwood high school and swore that my kids wouldn't go there, we are very happy with the schools and the education our children are receiving. 5A schools wth a small town feel.

Those schools are growing nothing like the used to be,but give the edge to Porter. If you don't mind spending a little money Kingwood would be my choice.

Lived in North Houston since '72. Myself and siblings are graduates from up here.

If you have kids and concerned with house resale value, I agree with some of the others comments. Kingwood, Woodlands, or prime areas in Conroe. I don't know your price point, but the new development at Grand Central Park (N45 & 336) will grow and provide a return on your $. Kingwood is your shortest commute downtown.

Homes have been historically difficult to turnover within the New Caney and Porter school district.

I'm not criticizing anyone's preferences or investment. It's just the truth with the market. We've built and sold homes in all price ranges in all of these communities.

                    Best of Luck.

Both my kids went all the way thru the Kingwood schools too. We just moved a little north, but the Kingwood schools are highly rated, but Personally, I would prefer my grandsons not go to the Kingwood schools. They live in the very front of Kingwood and go to the Porter schools. One other consideration you may want to explore is the Tarkington School District. It is an exemplary school district and is only about 20 minutes up the freeway from Kingwood/Porter. It is a very well run/managed district, small and from what we have come to understand provides a first class education K-12. Tax base is OK, but schools are well funded. We live in the district. Tarkington Prairie has some really good communities and is generally very family oriented... some fine churches in the area too... Bunch of TBH'ers there already (besides my family and me).

Thread started with him stating Porter/New Caney was as far as he was willing to commute.

Some nice communities and schools in Lufkin too. Is that on the table? No.

No kids yet, but maybe it's in the future. I'd be conservative and consider your investment/return on your $.

Odds are you'll move before they reach high school etc. I live in Summerwood (Atoscocita) basically. And this area is BOOMING. New developments everywhere. Values will go up, especially with the incoming Generation Park 4,000 acre business development over the next 5-10 years. We are south of Kingwood on the south end of Lake Houston. I can be downtown in 30min. Even done it in rush hour for Jury Duty. I can be at Beltway 8 & 59N in 10-15 min from when I start my truck. Don't know where you're working, but if you're working west, or SW of downtown (Galleria, City Centre) you're commute will be 1.5hr or more each way. My wife does it. Word to the wise.

Being too redundant, but hopefully somebody has an open ear.

Great schools, master-planned community, strong amenities and guidelines = Good investment with the likelihood of an above market return. (You still have to select a product /house the majority of the market will appreciate within that community)
