If I was going to buy a dog for blood tracking, I wouldn't buy a lab. But, you can train any sporting breed to track blood though their ability will vary.

Certainly a very personal decision. I've always likes just an "Ol Dog".
I have a Black Lab, Akita mix. He is a rescue.
Mother was the Lab and dad the Akita....Jake has a Lab disposition and the Akita's drive/determination.
Guess my point is a good Ol rescue, pound dog might fill the bill.
Jake is an Outstanding tracking dog, took to it naturally.
If the deer is dead Jake WILL find it. If it's not dead he might catch it.
He is also Head of ranch security and takes it seriously but is the gentlest
most good natured dog around when you are a friend.
Good Luck in your Quest...........
