    First time since 1928

Did you know that this is the first time since 1928 that the republicans control the US House, Senate and Presidency?

I'm curious, now that we've given all of this to the republicans, how long will it take to repeal the ACA (Obamacare)?

How long will it take to beef up border security?

How long will it take to openly and aggressively put an end to ISIS?

I truly hope these three things happen but I will believe it when I see it...

It will be a sad day for the Republicans if they cannot accomplish anything while controlling all three. I would guess they would accomplish a little, and then spend the rest of the time fighting over little stuff that makes no difference, and finally really accomplishing little.

That's a really disheartening stat. The stock market crashed the following October, 1929

I keep hearing this statement but I am fairly certain that the 108th Congress during Bush's first term was all Republican. I was always kind of mad by the fact that they squandered their time bickering among themselves and got nothing done of any consequence.

BUT... I keep hearing this repeated about 1928.

Answer (1 of 5): When Bush was sworn in as President in January 2001, the Republican party held a slim majority in the House and in the Senate the split was 50-50 Republican/Democrat. With Vice President Dick Cheney exercising his powers as "President of the Senate" control of the Senate went to ...

That article is somewhat skewed. It says that Bush didn't have congress for both terms "entirety".

Congress is only in session for two years.

According to wikipedia, the 109th Congress for all of 2005 and 2006 was entirely controlled by the Republicans with G W Bush as the president. They controlled the Senate 55/45 and the House 232/207.

The 108th Congress had the Republicans controlling both houses 51/49 and 229/205.

The 107th Congress had the Republicans controlling both with a 50/50 split in the Senate but with the vice president as the 51st vote or tiebreaker for the Republicans and a clear 220/211 majority in the House.

For 6 of Bush's 8 years he had the majority and 4 of those years a clear majority.

The claims of the first Republican sweep of both houses at the same time as the presidency seems to be unresearched by whoever is making the claim.

My apologies. I naively repeated what I heard in the news.

Yes, George W Bush had republican majorities in both the house and senate from 2003-2007.

The 2001- 2003 Senate make up shifted many times between parties due to who the VP was and which senators flipped parties.
