    Can't find an absolute answer on this

    Hunt in a subdivision on lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about §235.022, Local Government Code.)

    I live in Parker county, most everyone knows about the retarded gun ordinance on less than 10 acres but they didn't rule about archery. So does this mean I can legally BOW hunt my 4+ acres in the county?

    I have 40 acres next to me and 4 more empty acres on the other side and an empty trailer park behind me. I've shot 'yotes out there with my AR coming after my dogs and chickens with no problem but one of my dumb neighbors calls every time I do because she thinks I'm shooting at her..... even though I'm legal for that.

    She would be the one to see a deer go down on my property and call the GW, I just want to make sure I'm in the right before I stick this buck I keep seeing.....

    Why not call the warden and clear it yourself?

      Has the commissioner's court ruled hunting to be illegal in this particular subdivision?

      It looks like you could contact the County Clerk or the game warden to clarify.

          No there are no deed restrictions at all just the county gun ordinance. As far as I know there has never been a ruling against hunting in the county not a county wide ordinance against archery either.
          Iguess my only choice is to call the game warden. I just am in a habit of NOT calling them cause they tend to get a little nosey when all you ask is a simple question.

              Well, if your not doing anything illegal then whats it matter? They may be of big service if your dead deer winds up on your neighbors place! I keep up to date with the GW's in every county I hunt just in case I need them one day. I've never had an issue with any of them being nosey, probably because I'm honest with them...

                It matters to me because I've been in law enforcement myself and I know how nosey they can be because I was. They get paid to be that way.
                That being said, there are plenty that are and plenty that aren't. I don't want someone snooping around my place whether I'm doing something right or wrong because they know I'm down there hunting.
                Don't believe me? Ask my brother-in-law (state trooper) how that went for him.
                Not saying the ones in Parker county are that way but why stir the hornets nest unless I have to. Hoping not to get stung or bothered by them too much this time around.

                  It is but it's an OLD plot. There is/was so much controversy with the passing of that ordinance that even the sheriffs department doesn't know how to handle the gun ordinance.
                  No one has yet to be issued a citation and I've been told everything from you can bow hunt to not unless you have 20 or more acres to this area is grandfathered in. I can't get a straight answer in writing from anyone.
                  The books just aren't very clear about it and you get differing opinions from everyone you talk to. The dissenting judge that voted against it gave down an application for the law but it is so jumbled that no one knows what to do. I'm trying to protect my butt and still be able to enjoy hunting what I have coming into my property.
                  I have friends in a similar situation but they hunt it because they don't have crazy neighbors calling the sheriff anytime you sneeze in their direction. I don't even talk to the lady because she's nuts but she is literally trying to run everyone off who lives on my road and buy up everything around her. She hates people.

                    It's my understanding, and I could be wrong, but I believe the restriction you are talking about was for a particular development outside of the city limits but in the county. It did not apply to every area in the county.
                    When I had my place in the Springtown area I dove hunted my five acres and never had a problem.
                    On my Weatherford location I shoot my livestock for consumption or put down animals for mercy without any problems. I know of several people in my area that hunt and shoot on their properties of less than ten acres without any interference from the law.
                    Like I said, this is just my experience. As others have stated it would be best to contact the local warden.

                      Yes this was directed specifically at one subdivision but it was supposed to apply to similar areas county-wide.

                      I think your example is the case is pretty much most areas of Parker county. But when you have a crazy old lady neighbor who tries to run the street, she doesn't mind calling the law for anything SHE deems is wrong. Then I have the hassle of having to talk to the deputies.

                      I have plenty of friends who hunt on less than 10 acres but if no one calls the warden or sheriff, then it's hard to say if they are actually right or wrong. It only matters when I actually get called on, when defending my animals, and I have to deal with them.

                      I really am trying to make sure I'm in the right so when she calls I have a leg to stand on since it seems no one knows what is truly right or wrong.

                        Legal here in Brazoria County. Do it all the time on 1 acre. I can see 4 other stands and feeders from my stand. Warden's blessing to all. "We need to kill 60% of the deer in here......."

                          So the warden cleared me to bow hunt. We are in a discussion about rifle hunting because of the way the ordinance was created. I may actually have a little loophole. If you are in the county, under 10 acres, in an area that IS NOT a platted subdivision, rifle hunt and shoot all you want safely. I may be grandfathered in but we are checking into this.
