It has been a slow season but I finally got some meat in the freezer this morning. It rained alot of the night so I figured it might be worth sneaking over to my sister's 60 acres this morning for a couple hours before I had to get to the office. I sat by a tree looking down a rub line for a bit and saw 2 does but I let them pass thinking they might draw a buck into the area. After sitting there until 7am I decided to quietly slip down into a palmetto bottom and see if I could catch a buck slipping through there. It was a spot that just always looked good to me but have never hunted. I hadn't made it 20yds into the palmetto when I saw a mature buck 40yds from me with his nose to the ground. He didn't have a clue I was there. My hunch payed off as he took a dirt nap 30yds from where he stood. He is not a giant but he was a mature 8pt. I believe he was 4.5/5.5 yr old looking at his teeth. I'm pumped to finally have a deer on the ground in what has been an extremely tough season so far.
