What's up with his ear?

I am hunting fairly close to a high fence area and had this buck on the game cam. It is at a scrape which is why the leaf is in his face but it looks like the ear was tagged or ripped. Did he possible escape from the high fence or is his ear just messed up?

I think he is talking about the hole close to the end of the ear. Probably did it fighting.

Looks like a little tear that is all. What are the odds he escaped from the neighboring high fence ranch, and happened to tear his ear tag out, sounds like a conspiracy to me. You been diggin holes?

Not too many high fences around here so I thought maybe that was a metal clip not the cow tag type. I didn't know what kind if any are used for bucks. I have seen the big cow type tags in does before just not bucks. I also think the rest of his antlers are not visible in the dark, poor game cam. I saw an 8 the day before and think this maybe him.

I think he had his ear pierced and then got his butt kicked by another buck who told him how ridiculous it looked for a male of any species to wear an earring.
