Well, after years of bow hunting and never killing anything other than does and a spike, I finally got it done.
Yesterday evening I consider not even going. Finally got in the blind and watched does and a spike all evening. Haven't seen any mature bucks on camera since before the season, so my hopes weren't very high. It was getting dark so I went ahead and began to disassemble when I glanced up to see a doe had reappeared. I continued with my packing, set to leave soon. As soon as I completed and looked back at where thr doe was, a large bodied deer stood at the pile. I knew who it was right away. It was the buck I name Highway 10. That awesome feeling hit me hard. It was getting late and I second guessed whether I should chance the shot since I was in a dark pop up with low light. I knew I may not get another chance and it was go time. Realizing, Dang!, all my crap is placed away and ready to leave. I quickly, but quietly, took my quiver off and grabbed the arrow. What felt like an eternity reassembling, I finally was set and pulled back. I took my time to assure I had my peep correct and slowly lowered the sights down on his shoulder when he decided to chase a doe. My heart sank knowing time was fading rapidly with light fading. It didn't help it was cloudy. He came right back to the rice bran pile and set up perfect. This time I was ready. Said a little prayer, Lord please let it be a clean kill or a clean miss as I do not want to wound a deer. As soon as the 20 yrd pin settled around the sweet spot I squeezed the trigger and let it fly. Hearing tha familiar sound of ribs crack, but unable to clearly see where the arrow hit, my thoughts went crazy. Did I mess up? I didn't hear him crash! Dang! I sat for what seemed an hour but was only 15 minured. Nervously I approached the pile to find copious amounts of blood. You would have thought i dropped him right there with my excitement over the blood. It was easy tracking from there. I love an easy tracking job. Found him less than 75 yrds away. What a feeling to finally have a plan come together. This is my best by far. Gun or bow. I'll score him today. I thank God for this awesome blessing and great meat. Yall have a blessed weekend and good luck.
