AT&T Spartan GoCam new Data plan options.

I went to renew the data plan for one of my GoCams today and noticed 2 new options, a 6 month 2gb plan & a 12 month 4gb plan. For those of you who keep your camera's out year around it's a way to save about $20/yr on the data. Tax and all it's just under $80 for the data for year. That $20 saved will pay for 6 months of the premium service/GoApp. ;-)

Also, I just fried a GoCam last week with a covert 12v-6v power cable that quit regulating voltage and sent 13v to my camera. Got another camera and found out I could put it on the same data plan the previous camera was on, so no lost data that was already paid for. On the AT&T site you can edit both the SIM card number as well as the camera's IMEI # on a data plan.

I just put one of mine on the 1 year plan and am going to put my other 5 on that plan when I have to renew them.

Do you pay that once for the year on those plans? I want a cellular cam but I was under the impression I had to add a whole now line to my att account for $10 + data charges

You can do an "add a line" on your existing ATT cell plan as far as I know, but it'll cost you more. Doing a stand alone plan for each camera on the buyasession site is the cheaper way to go. If you do the 12 month/4gb plan, you pay for it up front all at once.

The 4gb plan is enough data for the year? How's that spartan gocam working for you? That's the one I wanted to get

Yes 4gb should be enough. I've been using the 1gb/90 day plans for almost 2 yrs and had no problem staying under the limit. It's the same allowance per month if you want to look at it that way. The cameras have been doing fine for us. I have 6 with the oldest 2 being nearly 2 yrs old.

Did the math on it last night. 4gb of data equals approx 20,000 pictures if your sending the large thumbnails. It equals about 80,000 pictures if your sending the small thumbnails.

Great info for those with leases... Can you post what a small thumbnail pic looks like compared to larde thumbnails...

Awesome deal! Wish Covert would go to that because I keep my 3 out year around for pigs

For closer setups the smaller thumbnails are not bad. You can see how clarity suffers in the daylight picture with the deer farther away. Night pics are probably a little less noticeable as contrast is easier in IR/B&W.

I try and use external power when possible. If I'm set up over a feeder where animals are likely to linger, I use larger thumbnails as getting pictures faster is not important. If I'm set up on a trail, scrape etc I'll use the smaller thumbnails as animals don't linger and I want shorter transmission times/faster picture taking. If I get something I want a good look at, I can request an HD version of the picture later.
