Going rate for extermination?

Had a exterminator come by the house yesterday trying to sell me on an extermination and was wondering if what he was offering was a fair deal.

He claim they will do everything inside and out and spray for all insects including termites. I see their trucks in the neighborhood often so I do not think they are some kind of fly by night organization. We have wood on 3 sides of our house, so we have plenty of insects to sealwith.

Here is his offer.

$50 first time extermination and $70 every 2 months, no contract.

Is this a fair deal?

Is there an exterminator here on the green screen that works the greater Houston area that would like to give me a quote?

Visits are every other month but additional visits are unlimited if we request. Our guy even treats the ants and anything he notices in the lawn.

I buy Tempo from the lawn and garden store and spray inside and out every 3 months. It takes care of everything. Make sure you mix it according to the instructions. We have scorpions and spiders, so I mix at 8 ml per gallon of water. Spray under the base boards, door frames, window frames, outside and in. I even spray 8 feet up on the outside rock. It takes me about 3 gallons to spray my entire house inside and out, and my 2 water pump houses and my shop.

I think 240 ml of Tempo SC costs $40-$50? and mixes 30 gallons. I've been told it has the same active ingredients that the pest control companies use.

We had fleas in our yard and hired an exterminator to come out.

On the invoice, they had the chemicals and the rates listed. I was talking to the guy and he said go to the website for "Do It Yourself Pest Control" or "Do My Own Pest Control", they are very similar. What it cost me for them to come in and spray, I could've bought the exact same products at the same concentration and sprayed my house quarterly for years.

The stuff you get at box stores is the same ingredients but watered down, worth checking out if you are consistent about wanting pest control on a quarterly or regular schedule.
