Can someone familiar with water wells please help

A friend of mine has been homeless for a few months now. They got into a place and the land lord is letting them fix stuff up to float the rent. There water well was tripping the breaker so I came over to trouble shoot. I found a short in the line to the pressure switch and the pressure switch was acting funny. I replaced the pressure switch and the line going to it. Now it's all back together and when you turn on the well you feel "bumping" from the pump and hear a little bit of water coming up and the the breaker trips. It's a half horse 115v pump. Shouldn't pull more than 10a. It's pulling 35a and runs for 5sec before tripping the breaker. I suspect it could be a bad start capacitor. What do y'all think?

    Next question
He jumped the gun and bought a new pump. It's a two wire pump and his is 3-wire. Does that mean I can do away with the whole control panel and just go straight to the pressure switch with it? Trying to decide which route to go.
If it's easier to just call me then go for it. 281-five hundred 7- eighty one 81

    Thanks in advance.

If the new motor is the same hp and voltage, it probably just doesn't have a ground wire? 3 wire vs 2 wire. I would guess start capacitor too if it has one. Could be the motor going bad. The start capacitor would be real cheap to replace. I assume it has worked before with the same size pump and everything? I would assume you will still need the control panel.
      Maybe a pic would help?

Sounds like motor is going bad. Yes with two wire all capacitors are built in the motor, so wire straight to pressure switch.

It shouldn't have a capacitor it's going to be the pump. 115v pumps aren't that deep. Change the pump and it'll work fine.

You may have too much pressure in the pressure tank. Even one pound extra will make the pump kick back off. It should be 1 to 2 pounds less than kick in pressure.
