    Need help with electrical wiring

The light switch for my garage is in a weird place inside the house. I want to add a second switch, in the garage.

All the how-to stuff I've read so far doesn't contemplate this situation I have where the laundry room light is also attached to the wires for the garage light. The LR is already a 3-way connection.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't wanna mess up electrical.

You dont need to even worry about the lighting circuit for the laundry room. You just need the feeder wires to come off of it to the next switch.

You should just tie in the constant hot from the LR switch to the wire going to the garage switch. The whites can all tie together as well as the ground.

He will need two travelers between the two three way switches.

I drew the wires as they are currently wired. I didn't wire them. This is just how they look right now when I open the panel.

Could you draw me a picture of what this is supposed to look like given my existing wiring?

You are going to need more wires. Look at post #5. That is how a 3way is done.

Right, I know I need more wires. I bought 14/3 at Lowe's on Sunday. I think y'all are saying I can just ignore how the LR switch is set up and proceed with a normal 3-way install. Is that right?

What has me confused is the two things I have circled here in red. I understand how to wire a basic 3-way switch. But I don't understand why my existing setup—as I found it—has the hot wire to the Garage 2-way switch being tied in to the hots from the Laundry Room switch and then a feeder wire used. Why wouldn't you have the hot go straight to the switch it's intended for?

I would have this thread deleted so that when you burn down the garage there won't be any hard evidence.
