Torn Labrum - who's dealt with it?

Haven't damaged the labrum but am 5 weeks out from a rotator cuff tendon (Supraspinatous) and re-attachment of the bicep tendon. I haven't experienced much pain. I was able to get off the Norco 3 days post op and off the ibuprofen within the first week. There is some nagging pain but tolerable. I should be out of the sling this week. I started rehab 12 days after surgery and already am able to lift arm above shoulder level without assistance. I don't know why doctors wait so long to start PT, that only makes it harder on you. Do your exercises and don't let your shoulder freeze up because those are hard to free up. I hope your surgery goes well if you end up needing one.

Experienced a partly torn labrum in my RT shoulder about 4-5 years ago, the doc at Azalea said he wouldn't do surgery on it. I sold my 70lb Elite GT500 and picked up my old Wing 42lb Thunderbird recurve, shot it for a year as "therapy". Was able to then pick up a used Switchback with a much softer draw cycle and continue to hunt with it. Now back to shooting an Obsession Evolution, shoulder hasn't bothered me for some time.

In college I tore both rotator cuffs, slap tear in each labrum, and a posterior labrum tear in my left shoulder. I was still playing and saw a few different doctors. My left shoulder got so bad it came out almost every day.
I elected not to do surgery. Went through a ton of PT, flexibility, and stability training. And my shoulders have stayed great ever since. But I have also stayed active and continued training. They do not bother me at all. I shoot 80#+ and lift heavy all the time.
Needing both shoulders done would have put me out a year. And missing a year in the middle of college is something you may never come back from. I can't remember the last Dr I saw it was almost 10 years ago. But he was a shoulder specialist that works on athletes. He is the one that got me to do the non surgery route. And I'm glad I did. Get a few more opinions. I know several guys that have had the surgery and still have problems.

tore mine twice in college. The pain after surgery was pretty awful like most of the guys that have chimed in already said. Two years after surgery I tore it again in the same shoulder. I elected to just do PT and honestly I haven't had much pain over the last 12 years. I had ACL, Meniscus, and MCL surgery last year and my shoulder on pain scale was much worse after surgery and through rehab.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for all the info, folks.
I talked with my doc last night regarding other options. Like I mentioned, he's certain that he'll have to cut me at some point (he's a surgeon, so...), but he's supportive of me pursuing some non-surgical options first. We're going to talk again this afternoon after he consults a pain management doc and his PT/rehab specialist.
The most bothersome thing about it is the ball slipping out of socket. My wife pops it back in every morning and most evenings, and I've figured out how to do it myself with the assistance of my desk and chair in the office. Instant relief.

Who's had the surgery?
In searching for info on the labrum repair, I found the link below. Who has actual knowledge of the DE helping with the labral pain?
