    Sciatic nerve issue?

So I woke up this morning and noticed the bottom of my foot particularly my heel was hurting. Then about half way through my shift tonight the pain started going up the back of my calf, now it's all the up the back of my leg into my hip! I can barely put any weight down on my foot without great pain and my foot is tingling at times. Co-worker who is also a paramedic said it's probably my sciatic nerve. Anyone else ever experience this? Buddy I'm hurting lol

With mine it started out as sharp pain from my hip to thigh. It finally went to my foot and would go numb. After trips to a chiroprtor with no relief i had an mri done. I had 4 blown out discs and arthiritis on 2 of them. Doctor said said he didnt know how i was walking much less working. Luckily surgery 2 years ago at 34 years old seems to have fixed it. I only had one disc done that was completely pinching the nerve off. Hopefully the rest dont get any worse.

I thought I needed knee surgery... after many trips to many professionals, figured out it was sciatic and piriformis syndrom. Google it.

Get a lacross ball: look at the picture of the lady sitting on this ball:

That is where your piriforis is, the most painful point on your backside. This is causing the pain down your leg.

Being able to manage the problem yourself is a godsend. I sit on a lacross ball every morning and I can walk again.

Could be as easy and as cheap as a $7 shim or as expensive as 5-7 weeks off of work and a high dollar surgery. If I would have found the right chiropractor a little sooner I probably could have avoided my surgery. One chiro wanted $5,000 for several weeks of hyperextension therapy, the next chiro sold me a $7 shim to wear in my right boot to equal out the length of my legs. To this day if I go 2 or 3 days without the shim I can feel the pain start coming back.

I solved mine my moving my bill fold to the other hip, in 3 days it had stopped hurting. Then I changed from a trifold to a bifold wallet and moved it back to the original hip, no more problems.

Mine popped up out of no where. Chiropractor made it worse. Had mri and met with a surgeon. Herniated disc which led to surgery. 11 days later I was back at work. 2 years later not a single issue

Going to a bifold helped me as well. I drive a fair amount, so I take it out of my pocket every time I get behind the wheel. Anytime I sit down when I'm not in a car, I put it in my front pocket. Sitting down with wallet in back pocket just does not work for me anymore.

Also, having good mattress at home helps as well. If end up on a less than suitable mattress for a few days, it really flares up.

Good info! I don't carry a wallet, but I'm sure my 15lb gun belt doesn't help either.

My chiro took an X-ray of me while standing and determined my left leg was a little longer than my right. This caused an slight curve and while lifting anything heavy, was not a good thing. My surgeon explained disc in our backs are kinda like a tire inner tube, if you smash one side what happens to the other side? That's when the bulged disc pinches the sciatic nerve.

Chiropractor fixed mine. I've suffered this for 30 years. Doctors will dope you up or recommend surgery. I was told ID be in a wheel chair without surgery. I didn't have it and still going strong 30 years later. Try heavy doses of Ibuprofen for a couple days.

mine is usually, hurts from my lower back all the way to my knee. Then below the knee to the ground numb. Usually have to take 2-3 aleve ( nopraxin) 3 times a day and get off of it. Good luck, it is truly a pain.

Here is a tip my Bond Doc gave me a bunch of years ago. Have not had nerve pain in my back, since. You results may vary...

The nerve in question goes through the pelvic bone and under the gluets (your sitter.) As we age or are inactive, the muscles and tendons shorten. As they do they will often tighten down on the nerve causing pain. He said if all of his patients would take the time to stretch and keep their leg muscles active, he would lose half his patients.

If your pain is nerve pain, try stretching your hams and gluets. It cost nothing. Is good for you, and could ease a lot pain.

I work nights and woke up today around 10am with some of the worst pain I've ever experienced. I've been having issues with my SN for a few months now and it's likely caused by my duty belt also. But the pain I experienced this AM caused me to call the Dr and get an appointment. I was prescribed a anti inflammatory and a steroid. We will see what happens. Lots of stretching usually keeps the pain at bay but I guess not this time. Acupuncture works well also, I'll be making an appointment this week! Best of luck to you and stay safe!
