Need your help for a contest

We are having a contest at work for Chirstmas this year. My Boss is a very giving person and is always looking for opportunities to serve/give in the church or community.

    Here is the contest-

We each have $2,000 to spend anyway we wish on someone or something else for Christmas. We can give it all to a charity or sponsor a family or just give it to a church, ect. I need some creative ideas of what to do with it. It can be split up anyway.

    Thanks for your help.

Not that churchs dont deserve it, but I sure like the sponsor a needy family idea. Just something about seeing the looks on the youngens on Christmas morning getting something they have been wanting all year. The look on my kids face every Christmas morning makes me a believer in Santa Claus.

You have time to change someone's life with that much money.

Use the $2000 to raise additional money. (Gun Raffle, Poker Tourney)

My guess is you could probably make that $2000 into $5000.

Then negotiate that money with a local church or charity to match your $5000. If you don't want to do that then grab a family (teachers/principal know where the need is) and pay their rent/buy food/clothes/toys. Keep it anonymous.

If you have kids, make sure they are involved.

some great ideas, but I will not have that much time. I have to have it all in place by the 13th. I am going to keep it very anonymous, but want to make the biggest impact.

That is a good idea about finding someone to match the funds.

find an honest, hard working kid that is willing to put in the extra effort to obtain a goal even when the odds are against him, and help him make his dream come true. 2,000 could go a long way for someone who has a vision.

Buy a used car for a family that needs one or for a college student with a family. Find the need.

Make an impact on someone looking to make an impact.

There are a lot of folks living in tent cities since Hurricane Ike. How about a hot communal Christmas dinner?

I wish I could afford to give out $100 bills to people I meet on the street, or around town, that look like they really need it. You could give 20 different families a day they will never forget. It won't make as big of an impact, but would reach more people.

In the past my fathers dealership did something cool and 2000. will get you there. Call an inner city middle school and ask to speak with the canceler. ask for 5 (give or take based on budget) good students that are disadvantaged. Buy those five students a new winter coat, and shoes. Rent a van and take them shopping, let them choose (within pre set budget) then take them to a nice dinner. One they wouldn't get to do normally, you know more forks than you can shake a stick at. Let the wait staff take care of them. Then have Santa gifts. You change their life and being there with them is more rewarding than if you pocketed 2000 yourself. money is money... add your time and now you have given something special.

Sears would cut us breaks on the shoes and jackets a fancy hotel will often cut a break on the meal when they know what is going on Plus Santa always came in after dinner and had toys something fun. The canceler would assist with getting the list ahead of time. We would often take a few of the mothers as chaperons. By the end of dinner I don't know who was more thankful the children or myself for being a part of it.

The best Christmas charity program I saw was one where I worked where they asked poor families not what they wanted to get for Christmas and then you'd buy one of them and bring it in, but what they wanted to give to their family members as Christmas presents. Then we'd bring them in, knowing that the magic of Christmas morning is in the giving of gifts to your loved ones. Maybe there's something there to help you make a decision.

Find a deserving college student and offer to pay part of his/her tution for the next semester. Education goes a long way......
